Jahangirpuri Violence: The police have arrested three more accused of communal violence during a procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti last month at Jahangirpuri in North West Delhi. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Along with this, the police have so far arrested 36 people including three minors in this case. Zaheer Khan alias Jalil (48) and Anabul alias Sheikh (32) were arrested on Friday from Jahangirpuri while the third accused Tabrez (40) was arrested from the same area on Saturday, officials said. Zahir Khan and Anabul were absconding since the day of the violence.
“They were identified on the basis of CCTV footage and statements of eyewitnesses who alleged that both were involved in the violence,” a senior police officer said. Both the accused had switched off their mobile phones and were frequently changing their locations. When he returned to his home in Jahangirpuri, he was caught.

The official said Jaleel was seen showing the pistol in the CCTV footage and it would be probed whether he had fired. Anabul was involved in the clashes. Police claimed that Tabrez was also involved in the violence. The police claimed that these arrests were made on the basis of technical evidence and statements of eyewitnesses.

Days after the violence, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana wrote to the Enforcement Directorate requesting it to investigate money laundering charges against the main accused in the case. The police have imposed strict National Security Act sections against the five accused in this case.
