Drugs worth Rs 1,526 crore were being brought in two boats, Indian Coast Guard and DRI seized


Drugs Caught In Lakshadweep: Another large consignment of drugs in the sea has been seized by the Coast Guard with the help of DRI. DRI and Indian Coast Guard have seized 219 kg of heroin worth 1526 crores under Operation Khojbeen in the sea near Lakshadweep. In the last one year, the DRI has seized narcotics drugs worth about 25 thousand crores being brought in the sea for smuggling. According to the information received, on May 7, the DRI i.e. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had received secret information that a large consignment of drugs in the sea near Lakshadweep is about to reach the border of India.


On this information, the DRI took the help of the Indian Coast Guard. DRI officers were also deployed on the Coast Guard ship, ICGS Sujit, and s ince then surveillance has been started in the Arabian Sea. On May 18, DRI searched two suspicious boats, Prince and Little-Jesus with the help of Coast Guard, and found 219 packets of one kg each. All these packets were loaded with illegal heroin. During interrogation, the crew of both the boats told that they had received this consignment of drugs in the sea itself. After getting the drugs, both the DRI and the Coast Guard have brought the boats to Kochi. Here the DRI will conduct a strict interrogation of the arrested crew members to find out from where this consignment of heroin has come and where it was to be sent to India.


3800 kg of drugs seized in last one year
According to the DRI, since last month i.e. April 2022, this is the fourth major consignment of drugs that has been caught in India. If we talk about the last one year, i.e. from April 2021 till now, 3800 kg of drugs have been confiscated from the country’s maritime borders to different airports. The value of these caught drugs in the international market is about 26 thousand crores. At the same time, the Coast Guard has also seized about three tonnes of narcotics drugs in different operations in the sea in the last three years, which is worth about 12,206 crores.

In the last one year, large consignments of drugs were caught from sea borders to different airports-

10 May 2022 – 62 kg heroin seized at Delhi Cargo Airport.

20 April 2022 – 20.6 kg gypsum powder seized at Kandla Port (Gujarat).

29 April 2022 – 396 kg heroin wrapped in thread caught at Pipav Port (Gujarat).

September 2021- 3000 kg heroin seized at Mundra port in Gujarat.

July 2021 – 293 kg heroin seized from Nahava Sheva Port.

April 2021 – 303 kg of cocaine seized from Tuticorin port (largest cocaine consignment ever).

February 2021- 34 kg heroin from Tughlakabad, Delhi.
