‘Feminism is not a western concept, Sita and Draupadi were the biggest feminists’, said JNU Vice Chancellor

JNU Vice-Chancellor: Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit said on Tuesday that feminism is not a western concept but is embedded in Indian civilization. He also said that there can be no greater feminist than Draupadi and Sita.

Pandit was addressing a function in which she was honored with Smt. Sushma Swaraj Stree Shakti Samman-2022. She asked students interested in the intellectual discourse of modern India to study Indian feminists at the ceremony.

She said, “Feminism is not a western concept, but is embedded in Indian civilization. There can be no great feminist than Draupadi or Sita.” The Vice Chancellor said, “I come from South India where descriptions of Kannagi and Manikekalai are found. I urge many students who are interested in the intellectual discourse of modern India to study these characters.
