Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation: The heat has wreaked havoc in the country these days. Monsoon is waiting everywhere in the country. Mumbai is expected to receive early monsoon this year as compared to the plains. Mumbai gets submerged every year during the monsoon season. Our correspondent took stock of how prepared the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is so that this does not happen in the rain this year.
Every year by the end of May, rains arrive in Mumbai, but at the moment it seems that the BMC is not ready for it at all because only 60 percent of the drains in Mumbai have been cleaned so far. Due to which there is a possibility of Mumbai drowning once again.
When will the drains be completely cleaned?
At the same time, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation claims that by May 31, 100 percent of the drains in Mumbai will be cleaned. Giving information to ABP News, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Mahale said that the cleaning of the drain is going ahead of time. Although there has been little cleaning in the city of Mumbai, but a few days ago, the BMC had given notice to the contractor, after which it has increased the work rapidly. To save Mumbai from drowning in the rain, 8 pumping stations have been built, out of which 6 pumping stations are ready while two others are being prepared.
What did the Aam Aadmi Party say on cleaning the drains?
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai unit president Prati Menon alleges that BMC’s drain cleaning figures are false. Prati Menon told ABP News that his workers visited some areas of Mumbai a few days back. He saw there that the drain had not been cleaned anywhere, so he took out pictures of those areas. Prati Menon demands that an independent audit should be conducted so that the reality of cleaning this drain comes to the public.
What did Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray say?
At the same time, regarding the rain in Mumbai, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that if it rains even 70 mm in Mumbai, then water gets accumulated. So we are trying to increase the pumping stations. At the same time, he says that if the rain is more than normal, then there can be an effect of heavy rains on Mumbai. At the same time, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation claims that on May 31, 100 percent cleaning of drains will be done in the entire Mumbai.
