In ‘Operation Namkeen’, DRI seized cocaine worth 500 crores, consignment was brought to Mundra port by telling salt


Cocaine Seized From Mundra Port: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has once again recovered 52 kg of cocaine brought under the guise of salt at Mundra Port in Gujarat. The cost of these drugs has been stated to be Rs 500 crore in the international market. This consignment was also sent to Mundra Airport in Gujarat via Iran. During the year 2021-22, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has so far recovered cocaine worth Rs 3200 crore.


A top official of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said that they had received information that a large consignment of narcotics could be sent to India through Iran. Based on this information, the DRI launched a covert operation. Which was named Operation Namkeen. Based on intelligence gathered in the operation and extensive data analysis and monitoring, the DRI suspected a consignment of 25 metric tonnes of common salt that had arrived at the Mundra Port in Gujarat. The consignment of this salt included 1000 bags which was imported from Iran at Mundra Port.


On the basis of suspicion, which field was continuously investigated by the DRI officials from May 24 to May 26, 2022. During this investigation, some bags of salt were found suspicious. Because a characteristic odorous substance was found in the form of powder in these bags. On suspicion, DRI officials took samples from these suspicious banks and got them tested in the laboratory of Directorate of Forensic Science, Gujarat.


Cocaine was found in these bags during testing by laboratory officials. After which 52 kg of cocaine has been recovered during the search so far. Following the cocaine seizure, the DRI authorities have started investigation and seizure proceedings under the provisions of the NDPS Act 1985.

Also, a detailed investigation is being done about which company had ordered this consignment and where it was to be known. Keep in mind that even before this, a huge consignment of narcotic substances brought through Iran has been recovered at Mundra Port.

According to DRI officials, in the financial year 2021-22, the DRI had seized 321 kg of cocaine across the country, which has been valued at Rs 32 hundred crore in the international market. During the last few months also, the DRI has registered several important cases related to narcotics. At present, the investigation is going on in this case and the work of identification of the accused has been started.
