Hyderabad News: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered sharing of the sealed report of the commission related to the investigation into the alleged encounter of four accused in the gang rape and murder case of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad. Sent to Telangana High Court for further action. A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli turned down the request of senior advocate Shyam Divan. The report of the three-member commission should be kept in a sealed cover.
The bench said, ‘‘We direct the Commission Secretariat to provide a copy of the report to both the parties.’’ Earlier, the bench had refused to share the sealed cover report of the commission with the lawyers for some time. The commission probing the encounter killings of the four accused is headed by former Supreme Court judge VS Sirpurkar.
CJI directed not to share report with lawyers
However, the Court directed the Registry to make available the copy of the report to the judges of the bench. While directing the CJI not to share the report with the lawyers for some time, he said, ‘‘Let us read the report first.’’ Earlier, on August 3 last year, the apex court had given six months more time to the commission to file its final report on the encounter case. The Sirpurkar Committee was constituted on 12 December 2019 and was entrusted with the task of investigating the circumstances that led to the encounter. He was to submit his report in six months.
