Bihar Bridge Collapse: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday reacted to the statement of a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who blamed “strong winds” for the collapse of part of an under-construction road bridge in Bihar’s Sultanganj. wondered. On April 29, a part of a road bridge being built on the river Ganga in Sultanganj collapsed during a storm. However, there was no report of any casualty in this accident.
Gadkari said in a program organized here, “A bridge had collapsed in Bihar on April 29. On asking his secretary the reason for this, he replied that it was due to strong wind and mist. Gadkari said, “I don’t understand how the bridge can collapse due to wind and mist. There must have been some mistake due to which this bridge fell.
The bridge being built at a cost of 1710 crores piled up in a gust of wind
During the program, the Minister stressed on the need to reduce the cost of construction of bridges without compromising on the quality. Sultanganj MLA Lalit Narayan Mandal said, “The possibility of using substandard material in the construction of the bridge cannot be ruled out but it is a matter of investigation that the bridge under construction at a cost of ? 1,710 crore could not withstand strong winds.” ”
After the construction of the bridge, the distance from Khagaria to Bhagalpur is only 30 km.
The construction work of this bridge between Sultanganj and Aguani Ghat in Bihar started in the year 2014. Although, its construction was to be completed in 2019 itself but still it has not been completed. With the construction of this over bridge in Bihar, the local people will get a big benefit. After the construction of this bridge, only 30 km will have to be traveled to come from Khagaria to Bhagalpur.
