Congress Working Committee Meet: Ahead of the Congress’s ‘Navsankalp Chintan Shivir’, party President Sonia Gandhi on Monday appealed to the party leaders to work with selflessness and discipline, saying that there is a ‘magic’ to strengthen the party again. There is no stick. At the same time, he said that the party has always done good to all of us and now the time has come for the Congress to repay this debt.

He also warned the leaders in the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s top policy-making body, that criticism on the party’s forums is necessary, but it should not happen that the confidence of the common Congressman should be lost.

Where is the Congress’s Chintan Shivir being organized?
Sonia Gandhi said that the ‘Navsankalp Chintan Shivir’ should not be just a ritual, but it should reflect the reorganization of the party. This Chintan Shivir is being organized on 13-15 May in Udaipur, Rajasthan. In the CWC meeting led by Sonia Gandhi, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Organization General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and many other leaders attended.

The agenda of Chintan Shivir was discussed in the CWC meeting. In this, the coordinators of the coordination committees related to politics, social justice and empowerment, economy, organisation, farmers and agriculture and youth and empowerment also put forward the agenda which will be brainstormed in the contemplation camp.

Which leaders gave presentation to Sonia Gandhi?
After the meeting, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said that this contemplation camp will not be a destination but will be the beginning of a long journey and it will also prove to be a milestone. He told that Mallikarjun Kharge gave information on political issues, P Chidambaram on economic issues, Bhupendra Singh Hooda on issues related to agriculture. He said that the ‘Udaipur Navsankalp’ which will come out on May 15, will talk about the reorganization of the organization and that will be an action plan. Ramesh insisted that this is a political contemplation camp. It is about taking action. There is no proposal in this, but an action plan will come out. According to Ramesh, in this contemplation camp, we are taking decisions for two years. Our aim is to prepare the organization of the party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Who will be involved?
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that a total of 422 leaders will participate in the Chintan Shivir. He said that all the members of Congress Working Committee, Special Invitees and Permanent Invitees, President of State Congress Committee, Leader of Legislature Party, Former Union Cabinet Minister, Former Minister of State (Independent Charge), National Secretary of Congress, Joint Secretary, Heads of various departments of the party, all office-bearers of Mahila Congress, all office-bearers of Youth Congress, all office-bearers of NSUI and members of coordination committees and people selected by Congress President will be involved.

According to Surjewala, 50 percent of the people who attend the Chintan Shivir are below 50 years of age and about half of them are below 40 years of age. Of these, 21 percent are women. People belonging to different sections of the society have also been called so that the diversity of India can be reflected.

What decisions have been taken?
Surjewala said that two decisions were taken in the CWC meeting. The digital membership drive is almost over. In such a situation, there was a need to amend the Congress constitution for this and it was approved. Along with this it was also decided that the Ladakh unit of the party would be formed.

In the context of Sonia Gandhi’s warning, Surjewala said that Sonia Gandhi has clearly said. That is, sometimes criticism is okay, but it shouldn’t be to demoralize. In the CWC meeting, Sonia Gandhi told the leaders that there is no magic wand. With selfless work, discipline and a spirit of consistent collective purpose, we can demonstrate perseverance and resilience. The party has always done good for all of us. Now is the time to repay the loan in full.

Shouldn’t there be rituals?
The Congress President also said in a warning tone that there is definitely a need for self-criticism in our party forums. But it should not be done in such a way that it breaks the confidence and spirit and creates an atmosphere of despair. He stressed that the Chintan Shivir should not be a mere ritual.

I am committed that it should reflect the restructuring of the organization so that ideological, electoral and managerial challenges can be dealt with. Discussion will take place.
