Committee For AIFF: The Supreme Court has appointed a 3-member committee to handle the administration of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Former Supreme Court judge Justice Anil Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi and Indian football team captain Bhaskar Ganguly are members of the committee. Elections were not held in AIFF for a long time. For the last 10 years till now, NCP leader Praful Patel was the president of AIFF.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and PS Narasimha has made it clear that this is an interim arrangement. After the new constitution of AIFF is ready, its elections will be held. The court said that the draft constitution has been placed before it. After hearing the views of all the parties, it will be approved.
Football World Cup going to be held in November
Senior counsel appearing for the AIFF referred to the Football World Cup to be held in November. He said that instead of handing over the work to a committee appointed by the court, efforts should be made to conduct elections soon. Opposing this, senior advocate Rahul Mehra, who was the petitioner of the case in the Delhi High Court, said, “We are at number 109 in the football world ranking. Instead of worrying about the World Cup, we should focus on improving our house. Maybe his After that we come from 109 to number 10.”
Delhi High Court had annulled the 2016 election
The AIFF was occupied by an executive committee headed by Praful Patel for almost 10 years. The elections held in 2016 were annulled by the Delhi High Court. Even after that, the old Executive Committee continued to run the administration of the Football Federation. Now the interim committee appointed by the Supreme Court will look after the functioning of the Federation till the next election.
