smoking and alcohol
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), smoking damages bones and promotes fractures, possibly due to the interference of estrogen, calcium and vitamin D. Smoking is responsible for the balance of weak bones and is a major risk factor for bone loss. On the other hand, if you drink too much alcohol, your body’s ability to absorb and control calcium, vitamin D and hormones is hampered. Also, it can lead to low bone density and chances of bone breakage.
too much salt
Hardly anyone has told us that the more salt we eat, the more calcium gets removed from our body. According to the NCBI, eating too much salt is not only related to osteoporosis and loss of urinary calcium, but is also associated with many diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease and kidney stones. Often, while watching movies or TV, we prefer food like chips, popcorn, which may have the highest amount of salt in them. To maintain balance, you don’t need to cut out salt completely, but your total sodium intake per day should be less than 2,300 milligrams.
Researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have proved the link between ultra-processed food items and reduced bone quality through their study. While canned food makes our life easier by saving our time, its daily use can also cause inflammation in the bones. Apart from this, some packaged food items are most responsible for bone swelling. Hardly we would know that some health-benefiting vegetables such as mushrooms, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and brinjals can also cause inflammation in the bones.
