Two Commanders Awarded UYSM: The government has awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) to two top military commanders for providing a strong leadership against China on the LAC adjoining eastern Ladakh. On Tuesday evening, President Ram Nath Kovind honored both the commanders with UYSM medals at the defense decoration ceremony. The two commanders who have been awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal at the defense decoration ceremony are Lt Gen YK Joshi and Lt Gen PGK Menon.
Recently retired le. General Joshi
Take it recently. General Joshi has retired as the Commander of the Northern Command of the Indian Army at Udhampur. During the tension with China in eastern Ladakh and the violence in the Galvan Valley, Joshi was in charge of the Northern Command. The Northern Command is responsible for the LAC adjoining Eastern Ladakh and the LOC and Siachen adjoining Pakistan.
Lt Gen Menon posted at Army Headquarters
Lt Gen Menon is currently posted as Military-Secretary at Army Headquarters. He has also been given for strong leadership on the LAC against UYSM China. In the year 2021, Lt. General Menon was the commander of the Fire and Fury Corps (14th) based at Leh. Take India’s side for talks with China for disengagement on Finger area and Kailash Hill range. General Menon used to lead the military delegation.

Army Chief awarded PVSM
Army Chief General Manoj Pandey was also awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) for his outstanding services at the decoration ceremony. Apart from this, Lieutenant General DP Pandey, who recently moved from the rank of Commander of Chinar Corps to the post of Commandant of Army War College, Mhow, has also been awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal. Lieutenant General KGS Dhillon, who recently retired from the post of DG of Defense Intelligence Agency, has also been awarded the PVSM.
Apart from this, the President i.e. Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces also honored the soldiers with Shaurya Chakra and other gallantry medals. Among them were those soldiers who were given this medal posthumously. The wife and other family members of the soldiers received this award posthumously.
A total of 13 Shaurya Chakras including 06 were awarded posthumously. Gallantry Awards were given to soldiers for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and devotion to duty. The President presented 14 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 04 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service of exceptional nature.
