Abu Dhabi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to express his condolences on behalf of India on the death of United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Khalifa passed away on Friday after battling the disease for several years.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Abu Dhabi to pay homage to the late President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that Vice President Naidu will visit the UAE on May 15 to offer condolences on behalf of the Government of India on the passing away of the UAE President.
PM Modi and President Kovind expressed condolences
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi Condoled the death of Sheikh Khalifa on Friday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the UAE Embassy in New Delhi on Saturday to offer condolences on behalf of India.
India observed one day national mourning
India observed a day of national mourning on Saturday in honor of Sheikh Khalifa. The Ministry of External Affairs said, “India-UAE relations under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan have been greatly enriched for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.” He took exceptional care of the Indian community present in the UAE, who had great respect for him.
The ministry said that the two countries will continue to advance their historical and comprehensive strategic ties in new and diverse areas.
